Percussionist Dylan Blanchard has played in groups Grupo Esperanza, Olas, The World Leaders, The Open Hand Orchestra and Taína Asili y la Banda Rebelde. He has traveled to Brazil and Cuba, studying the music and culture of those places. Currently residing in New York City, he continues his studies in a community of great talent and passion, playing for Afro-Cuban dance classes, events and performances.  

Discover the flamenco style Alegrias with guest artists Taína Asili (cante/song), Gaetano Vaccaro (toque/guitar), Dylan Blanchard (cajon/palmas) together with Lindsey Bourassa (baile/dance). This workshop will focus on learning elements of an Alegrias dance accompanied by singing, guitar, palmas and cajon and explore how these elements work together to create a whole. In each level, an hour of the workshop will be dedicated to dancing with accompaniment. A second hour will bring both levels together to learn about Alegrias structure, song, music and palmas.

​Puerto Rican vocalist Taína Asili and Sicilian guitarist Gaetano Vaccaro have studied music under some of the world’s finest flamenco musicians, touring nationally and internationally in various musical projects from California to Mexico, and from Puerto Rico to Spain. They have studied at Flamenco Latino in New York City, and Taller Flamenco and El Centro de Arte y Flamenco in Seville, Spain. Since 2009, Asili has studied with contemporary flamenco vocalists including Alicia Gil, Esperanza Fernández and Alfonso Cid. Gaetano has studied with flamenco guitarists such as Francisco “El Pulga” Morales and Miguel Angel Cortez.
